The Herding breeds are bred and trained to herd flocks of animals such as cattle and sheep. Some of the herding breeds work well with any kinds of animals while others are bred and developed to work with specific kinds of animals.

Herding breeds are very intelligent and beautiful with physical characteristics that help them with their work. They range in sizes but most are medium to large in size. (Of course my favorite is the German Shepherd.)

Herding breeds make great family pets but are bred to work and must be kept active. If they are not kept active both physically and mentally they will find their own destructive activities to keep them from being bored. Sporting activities and learning tricks is a great way to keep them from getting bored.
