The breed was developed along the Chesapeake Bay. They were bred to hunt waterfowl under adverse weather and water conditions. They are a large dog standing 21 to 26 inchesand weighing 55 to 80 pounds depending on male or female.
The breed is bright and happy, intelligent, quiet and protective in nature. They are a naturally dominant dog among other dogs and it is not a good idea for a casual pet owner to have more than one due to this. Training can be difficult but persistance and patience will prevail.
This is a loyal family pet who will be an excellent companion, friend and protector.
