The Basenji is a hunting dog that originates in central Africa. Most consider them a sighthound including most kennel clubs. They have a very unique feature unlike any other breed which earns them the name "barkless dog." Due to an unusually shaped larynx the Basenji produces a yodel like sound instead of a normal bark.

They are small, elegant looking with short hair, erect ears and a tightly curled tail. They typically weigh 24 pounds and stand 17 inches. They are known to be athletic and powerful for their size. Basenjis are intelligent and learn quickly but can be mischievous and test their owners for fun.
