Airedale Terrier




airedale terrier The Airedale Terrier originated in Yorkshire, England and is the largest dog of their breed group. They were originally bred to hunt and is often called the "King of Terriers." They are 50 to 70 pounds and stand 23 inches tall. They have a wiry topcoat with a soft fur like undercoat. Their coat color is black saddle with a tan head, ears and legs.

The Airedale has been used as a working dog and also as a hunter and retriever. They also exhibit some herding characteristics as well. Before the adoption of the German Shepherd as the police dog of choice, they filled this role also.
